We are currently living in a society where physical activity is becoming more and more restricted and this obviously has an effect on
children too. The numbers of people overweight and obese is increasing dramatically in all the industrialised countries.
For children, open air games have given way to electronic games (Play Station, Nintendo, etc.). Travel by bike or on foot is now done in
motorised vehicles; super-secure play areas have replaced natural playgrounds such as forests, etc., etc.
The consequences are very quickly felt. Nowadays, most children are poorly coordinated and have deficient motor apparel which leads
quickly to back problems; worse, we are seeing that many children simply do not know how to run!
This must change. We must find concrete answers to this problem of sedentary children. Every child must have the chance to possess sufficient
motor baggage to allow him the best possible development, both physically and intellectually. The success of their adult lives may just depend on it.
